Kim, here...
I'm am but one artist-instructor at Meridian Gallery in San Francisco, working with fabulous teen interns.
I spoke to our director, Anne, today who requested we improve upon our communications and collaboration, so...
I suggested we start a more user-friendly method of relaying our plans to each other and mutually supporting each other and the Interns Program. Here it is, the MIP Instructor Forum.
Just so everyone know my plans:
I teach art in the world and have a 2-pronged project going that is supposed to re-enforced work the interns are doing in other workshops. By now many of you know about the artistic ancestor project. Interns choose (should have by now!) an 'artistic ancestor', make visual artwork in media of their choice inspired by this artist either stylistically, in terms of subject or both. In addition, there is a written component - involving research and writing (yeah, i said that). It may be an actual or fictional interview (if the artist is long gone), a poem or ode, a critical review or a biographical sketch. These 2 things are supposed to be in common with / serve the work they are doing for the 'zone and for their personal projects on Tuesdays and Thursdays, not to replace them.
I guess what really came up is the topic of deadlines (the "D-Word!"). Shall we set one for the zine? Can their interviews, reviews of artists work for that?
BTW, Scott, feel free to team up any/all Friday's to support (esp. cause it's more $ and more 1:1).
As for a collaborative piece - wow, heavy order, but I did see and like Alexis' idea of a photo history + pinhole + (especially) camera obscura! What do folks think? Can we have them build one?
that's it for me. hope this works for you all and you can contribute at least once a week to keep us up on plans and to ask/consult/share/download/upload.
peace,
kim
